Well... this was long overdue, wasn't it?
For all unaware, this is YoshiMaster24. Or at least, I was YoshiMaster24 before the day of reckoning occurred. It's massively unfortunate because I've met some of the most amazing people on the site, and it sucks I haven't spoken to them in so long (still shooting myself in the damn foot for that).
So I know what you're thinking. "Why Yoshi? Why did it take you THIS long to show yourself again?" To tell the truth, it was honestly 'cause I never truly got to say how much this community means to me. All of the people, events, collabs and every little thing in between... I miss it. And I never got to say how badly I miss it. Much less how much it has impacted my life.
But I guess now that I have your attention, might as well make the most of it.
Sit down, fellow dudes and dudettes; Uncle Yoshi's got a bit of a story to tell:
I first discovered Domo Animate through a very short lived phase where I was fascinated with Japanese animation (hey, I was thirteen and just discovered anime who WOULDN'T?). A friend of mine from school carried a Domo keychain on his backpack, and it immediately caught my eye. I never saw a character like Domo before: simple in design, but still pleasing to the public nevertheless.
Upon looking up the Domo shorts out of sheer curiosity, I was hooked. The simple stories combined with the off-the-wall character design was unlike anything I've seen at that age. Everything about that show caught my attention and sparked my imagination!
And it was a fitting time too. Thanks to my interest in the Captain Underpants books, I was able to make my own little fan-comics which in turn led me to become an animator. I made comics of all of my interests: and Domo was no exception! From the characters, to the setting, to even point where I gave Domo a distant relative (his name was Cousin Bob; fight me). I adored every second of mindlessly spilling my creativity on a blank slate of paper, with no purpose but to hopefully find an audience!
Jumping a year to 2010, I began to see advertisements for this random site called Domo Animate... HOLD UP: a Domo-themed site where I can make my own cartoons?
Spoiler alert: I was friggin' sold.
With the studio tools and a boatload of characters my imagination went into overdrive: I came up with so, SO MANY ideas for stories and situations for the cast to get into, ranging from a series branching off of random skits and clips, to a full-fledged series with everyone's favorite mutant brownie landing on a plant populated by other creatures like him!
(as you can tell, it was cringe city.)
From my history on Domo regardless, I can say that I've done it all: I fought off monsters, became a DJ-Loid, met some amazing friends, and even stood up against a hacker threatening people on the site! It was a crazy time for me, and it genuinely made me feel welcomed for the first time in years!
...and then the Great Vanquish of 2014 happened.
I lost everything from the shutdown, as I'm sure all of y'all did too. And even with the migration to DeviantART and eventually Instagram, it just didn't feel the same. This site has done so much for me those past three to four years, and my heart was shattered to see it go. On top of that? Some of my closest friends such as Keen, DJ Bear, HeyAppleNet, Mario RandomNES, and the others weren't just gone...
...they were snapped out of existence Thanos style. Seriously, I can't find these guys ANYWHERE to save my life. Even where it got to the point where I just gave up on finding them...
But the worst part of all? I never said a proper goodbye.
I've seen many young and inspiring animators come and go. And it absolutely kills me inside and out that I never reached out to them one last time before all of this... I love you guys. Arguably way more than I love myself... and I absolutely hate myself for not giving Domo Animate the send-off it deserves.
Don't look at this thread as a sob story. Look at this as a long overdue reunion. One that some can say was 6 years in the making.
So please. To all my fellow animators: love each other more. Support each other more. Exchange Skypes or Discords. I honestly don't care what y'all decide to do as long as we keep the flame burning for as long as humanly possible. In these difficult times, we need all the joy and help we can find.
So why stop now, when we can do so much more?
My Discord is Latch#9551, and my Instagram is @latch.raw if any of y'all wanna rekindle for old time's sake. And quite honestly, I cannot say this enough...
Thank you all.
For being there for me during my most difficult times and sharing memories I won't be forgetting anytime soon. And remember:
Be true.
Be brave.
Be yourself.
And don't ever forget who we are. We aren't just animators.
We're a family. And we always will be.
