I used to love GO!Animate, I used to center my life around it. I had so many friends, we were so happy together, but there is likely no point in mentioning that now, you probably know how that all ended.
However, GO!A's current actions, despite me trying not to associate with the site much anymore, has made me more disappointed than I was.
Firstly, I'm picking up an old issue that's still going on; despite the fact that the forums have changed to GO+ only to prevent trolling and conflict, there is still some conflict floating around and there lacks any active moderation. While they got rid of MOST of the trolls, they also got rid of many contributing users who, I do not doubt would voice their opinions on some of the issues that I'll be posting below.
As many of you may know, and most likely very upset about ; Domoanimate's shutdown. There has been no proper explanation by the GO!Animate staff as to why this decision was made (If there is, please link me to the source), and while there has been a few "sorry"s, we have not received a full apology and explanation. But, if I had to guess, it may be that Domoanimate is not making them enough profit, the site becoming difficult to manage, or it's related to this problem ;
Go!Animate is trying too hard to present itself to a "professional" audience and is trying to make more and more income. While, ofcourse, every company needs to make money and most companies would try to present themselves as "professionals", Go!Animate has been trying to push it too far and I do not exactly see them achieving as much as they'd expect. Firstly, while Go!Animate's animation studio is easy to use and powerful, it is far from professional compared to the actual "professional" tools, and is rather limited compared to those as well. Secondly, the new animation studio offers only a handful or less of new features at the cost of being much more difficult and tedious to navigate. While the new features come in handy sometimes I do not really see why the extremely tight layout was needed. Thirdly, there are bugs and lag that exist in the animation studio, and some of them haven't been exactly fixed yet.
While Go!Animate is aiming for a professional audience, they forget that a majority of their former userbase that helped the site were simply kids and teenagers who wanted an easy to use animating engine to make their dream animations come true. Those who didn't want to do much were free to stop as a free user, but those who wanted to go really crazy had Go+ to back them up.
It's treatment of free users is a rather big problem as well. I was very very disappointed to find that the file upload size(specifically the music) has been horribly reduced, and while free character creation is appreciated it is rather annoying that you need to have a paid account to save said characters. What really shocked me, however, was the new time limit for the free users, from the small-but-enough time of 2 minutes, it has been reduced to 30 seconds.
As it is now, I cannot recommend GO!Animate for anyone to use, and from the looks of things it's likely going to get even worse. Ofcourse, GO!Animate may not care about just a single former user being troubled and complaining about their actions, but they're all too happy to trample over any amount of customers they consider "unimportant" as long as they can make a profit from it.
This is just my personal opinion.
